Position Overview Under the general direction of a Fish and Game Coordinator, this position is responsible for overseeing and supervising the wildlife management program in Southeast Alaska (Region I). The program includes surveys, inventory, and harvest management for big game and furbearer populations.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the management program, supervise 8 management staff members, and oversee 4 area offices.
Coordinate and participate in Board of Game and Federal Subsistence Board regulatory processes for the region, ensuring scientific quality and integrity of management programs and publications.
Manage program budgets and ensure compliance with the Pittman‑Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration program requirements.
Collaborate directly with other agencies, advisory groups, and the public to address concerns and opportunities related to wildlife management.

Working Conditions & Travel The Management Coordinator position will be based in the Douglas Island Building – approximately 3 miles from downtown Juneau. Travel to Anchorage, Fairbanks, Sitka, Petersburg, Wrangell, and Ketchikan is required, and occasional fieldwork throughout Southeast Alaska is expected.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and mentor mid‑career professional biologists.
Demonstrated ability to design, plan, budget, and implement complex research programs that collect biological information to promote sound and practical wildlife management.
Broad knowledge of wildlife biology, including population dynamics, distribution, habitat requirements, life histories, reproduction, behavior, and conservation.
Strong organizational and administrative skills with experience in the Pittman‑Robertson federal aid program requirements.
Ability to clearly present biological data and analytical results, both oral and written, to scientific peers, the general public, and the Alaska Board of Game.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, biology‑related field, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management.
One year of advanced professional level biologist experience (e.g., Fishery Biologist 3, Wildlife Biologist 3, Habitat Biologist 3, or Fisheries Geneticist 2 with the State of Alaska or equivalent with another employer).
Certifications: Wildlife Chemical Immobilization Certification, Wildlife Capture & Handling Certification; CPR and First Aid training.
Valid driver’s license.
