Job Description

Provides quality care to patients receiving diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.

Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.

Assists with patient/family education and keeps families abreast of progress.

Provides direct quality care for patients receiving Nuclear Medicine and PET exams.

Responsible for radiologic care and assists with clinical care of patients.

Performs efficiently in emergency situations.

Sets up imaging rooms with equipment and supplies.

Acquires, processes, and photographs optimal exams for diagnostic interpretation.

Operates all diagnostic equipment, including scintillation cameras, PET scanners, uptake probes, well counters, dose calibrators and GM meters.

Ensures imaging rooms are stocked and follows safety requirements of the hospital and department.

Practices radiation safety standards to prevent injury to patients and staff.

Completes patient care documentation following the charting procedure.

Enters procedures in the Radiology Information System for billing.

Prepares billing sheet and submits per guidelines.

Communicates effectively with patients, families, and other health‑care team members.

May serve as a resource to Radiologic Technology students.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Registered in Nuclear Medicine with the ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association.

Physical Requirements Medium: 20‑50 lbs occasionally; 11‑25 lbs frequently; 0‑10 lbs constantly; lifting up to 50 lbs. Requires occasional to frequent standing, walking, occasional sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary based on work area and tasks.

Environmental Factors Environmental exposures may vary by work area and tasks. They include blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel. Personal protective equipment and respirators are required as needed.
