A Brief Overview The advanced practice provider (APP) provides patient‑centered, specialized, evidence‑based care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. APPs are board‑certified providers that assume responsibility and accountability for health stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of acute and chronic illness or injury. This role contributes to the mission and vision of the organization by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by Nebraska state statutes, administrative code, and the organization’s bylaws. The APP is committed to a culture of clinical excellence, respect, innovation, and academic inquiry through collaborative practice with all members of the care delivery team.
Essential Functions
Provide safe, comprehensive and compassionate clinical care.
Assess patients, synthesize and analyze data, order diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluate clinical outcomes.
Seek and integrate the perspectives of interprofessional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribe medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant/child with high‑risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions.
Apply evidence‑based medicine pertinent to neonatal/pediatric populations.
Continuously evaluate the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability.
Assume a leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice and improve patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams and developing programs.
Constantly consider the child’s development, family’s readiness and resources when translating health information, education and support.
Demonstrate understanding of internal and external rules, regulations and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification and billing compliance.
Maintain an accurate log of credentialed procedures performed and demonstrate competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills.
Serve as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum ensuring the best patient/family experience possible.
Maintain regular attendance at work as an essential function of the job.
Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section.
Education Qualifications
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the Physician Assistant program (required).
Experience Qualifications
Previous clinical experience in pediatrics (preferred).
Skills and Abilities
Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.
Maintain practice agreement with the service of specialty and practice within the framework of the respective scope of practice.
Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices, including documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.
Knowledge of the physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social needs of neonates, infants, toddlers, pre‑school, school‑age and adolescent patients.
Maintain current knowledge and skill level in the field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attending conferences or seminars.
Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests – demonstrating prioritization skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
Ability to be self‑directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.
Licenses and Certifications
PA – Physician Assistant (required on hire).
PA‑C – Certified Physician Assistant (required on hire).
BLS – Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association (required on hire).
DEA License (required within 30 days).
PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (required within 180 days).
ACLS (required only if working in the Cardiology department, within 180 days).
Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed (required on hire).
