Overview Seeking an experienced and collaborative Pit Director/Conductor for the Spring 2026 production of Hadestown. This role will lead, coach, and rehearse student musicians while performing as an integral member of the on-stage ensemble throughout the production.
Key Responsibilities
Train and rehearse student musicians on the following instruments: violin, cello, bass, acoustic guitar, and woodwinds.
Serve as the primary pit pianist throughout rehearsals and performances.
Conduct the pit ensemble, providing musical leadership, coordination, and artistic guidance.
Perform on stage with the student musicians as part of the full production during each performance.
Collaborate closely with the Musical Director, Assistant Musical Director, Vocal Director, Choreographer, and Technical Director to ensure artistic consistency and production quality.
Attend up to four rehearsals per week beginning January 15, 2026, from 3:30-5:30 PM.
Attend all technical rehearsals during the week preceding final performances.
Be present and perform in all final performances scheduled for April 24-26, 2026.
Qualifications
Strong background in musical theater, orchestral performance, or instrumental instruction.
Proficiency as a pianist and experience conducting small ensembles.
Ability to mentor young musicians and foster a positive, supportive rehearsal environment.
Collaborative spirit with excellent communication and organizational skills.
Prior experience working on staged musical productions preferred.
