Overview The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability “stretches to create a future when humans and nature thrive in concert and in perpetuity.” The Sustainable Mobility Center (SMC) is a new integrated research hub focused on five pillars: sustainable energy systems, sustainable infrastructure, safety, economic viability, and sustainable design. SMC brings together faculty, researchers, students, and industry partners worldwide to innovate in mobility.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, management, and execution of the Stanford Sustainable Mobility Center.

Create and direct innovative research, educational, and convening programs leveraging the expertise of Stanford faculty and students.

Translate Stanford activities into real‑world impact for the global mobility ecosystem.

Conduct strategic planning and analysis for complex university functions or programs with significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges.

Act as the subject‑matter expert for the School/unit and/or the university regarding interpretation, implementation and compliance with policies and regulations.

Represent the program or function at the university level and to external constituencies.

Direct and manage outreach strategy including relationship development, communications, and compliance.

Oversee or supervise staff in the development and implementation of functions or programs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies spanning multiple organizational boundaries.

Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.

Ability to make sound business decisions using good judgment and innovative problem‑solving.

Experience managing financial, organizational and staff resources.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills for cultivating professional and business partnerships.

Relevant subject‑matter expertise and strong project planning and management skills.

Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology.

Independent decision‑making ability and teamwork capability.

Commitment to a culture of safety – demonstrate personal responsibility and safety values.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD degree.

Significant and diverse experience in the mobility sector – >5 years of experience in intelligent transportation systems, infrastructure, environmental impacts, regulation, economics and policy.

Significant data science/advanced computational modeling/ML/big data analytics experience – >5 years.

Strong organizational and management experience – track record of leading complex, multi‑disciplinary teams.

Pay Range Expected salary: $181,914.00 – $231,158.00 per annum (actual pay determined by qualifications, budget and market).
