The Director of Business Development will drive revenue growth, enhance brand awareness, and manage the Business Development and Proposals Teams across the U.S. This leadership position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive, firm‑wide business development strategies.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, execution and review of strategies and initiatives for the firm’s practices and lawyers.

Drive revenue generation initiatives, including client targeting, market research, and RFP responses.

Collaborate with communications, brand, and award teams to develop strategic visibility initiatives.

Lead key client efforts, providing direction, infrastructure, KPIs, and metrics.

Build and manage a highly effective team of marketing and business development professionals across the U.S.

Establish and maintain relationships with firm‑wide leaders, practice group leaders, managing directors, and other departments.

Work across teams to elevate matter collection and streamline business development knowledge management processes.

Partner with department leaders to drive cross‑functional projects and improve efficiency, collaboration, and visibility.

Drive implementation of key initiatives and cross‑selling opportunities with the Business Development Team.

Develop and implement strategies to expand existing client relationships and generate new business.

Create consistency in messaging and best practices throughout the department and firm via staff development and training.

Share best practices between industry and practice groups and the department to maximize productivity.

Coach and develop the team, identifying developmental needs and mentoring.

Set performance standards, monitor performance, and motivate the team.

Identify and develop best practices across the department; establish long‑range objectives and strategies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field (Master’s preferred).

At least 15 years of progressive marketing and business development experience, preferably in a multi‑office professional services firm.

Strong business development skills, including planning, organization, negotiation, budget management, and ROI analysis.

Ability to motivate attorneys and work with them to develop and implement business development plans.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to produce compelling proposals, collateral and client‑facing materials.

Forward‑thinking, solutions‑oriented with a track record of delivering results to complex challenges.

High level of maturity and confidence for interacting with senior internal and external clients.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business development/marketing technology tools.

Background in technology, tools, processes and innovation to drive revenue and efficiency.

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship‑building skills to build consensus and excitement.

Team‑first approach with a proven track record of managing and mentoring a large, geographically diverse team.

Dynamic energy, “can‑do” attitude, results‑oriented, and client‑service mentality.

Ability to tolerate ambiguity and respond quickly to shifting demands.

Strong leadership skills to guide, manage and inspire the team.

Strategic thinker who collaborates with leaders to develop and execute plans.

Experience leading change initiatives related to talent and people management.

Awareness of current legal market trends, news and innovations.

Compensation & Benefits Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skills and experience. The anticipated salary range is $250,000 to $300,000, based on location and other factors. Bonuses are non‑guaranteed and dependent on performance.
