About the Job
As a Staff Hardware Engineer, you will be the technical anchor for the Electrical Engineering and Systems Integration efforts on the Beam product line. You will not only design complex circuits but also define the system-level architecture that allows our hardware to perform seamlessly with Google’s software and firmware stack.
In this role, you will look beyond individual components to the entire system life‑cycle. You will lead the technical direction for the Electrical Engineering team, mentor engineers, and serve as the primary hardware interface for our Software, Firmware, and Mechanical Engineering partners.
Google Beam is a true‑to‑life new communication technology from Google that allows people to feel like they’re having real face‑to‑face conversations, no matter the distance. Powered by realistic state‑of‑the‑art 3D imaging and spatial audio and integrated with today’s leading remote video platforms, Google Beam enables you to be immersed in the moment, together.
As a part of the Google Beam team, you’ll work with incredible teammates across all major functions in a fast‑paced product‑oriented environment. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. You will apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can’t.
Responsibilities
Lead the definition of the electrical system architecture for next‑gen Beam products, including high‑speed digital interfaces, power delivery networks, and sensor integration.
Partner closely with Software and Firmware engineering teams to define hardware‑software interfaces, debug complex system‑level issues, and optimize power management states.
Grow the technical capabilities of the engineering team, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and rigorous design validation. Manage technical relationships with JDM/ODM partners and component vendors to ensure successful manufacturing builds.
Own the hardware development life‑cycle: from initial concept and schematic capture to PCB layout supervision, prototype bring‑up, and Mass Production (MP). Drive component selection and trade‑off analysis (power, cost, performance, and thermal) to meet product requirements.
Work with Signal Integrity and Power Integrity (SI/PI) experts to ensure robust design margins for high‑speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, MIPI, DDR, USB).
Compensation & Benefits
The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $174,000 – $258,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
