The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles’ third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. Reporting to the Head of Cleaning and Waste Senior Manager, Venue Cleaning & Waste will lead the planning, development, and delivery of the cleaning and waste management program across all Olympic and Paralympic competition and non‑competition venues. This role is responsible for establishing venue‑specific cleaning and waste protocols, ensuring alignment with LA28’s sustainability objectives, and managing operational readiness and Games‑time delivery. The role will collaborate closely with Venue Management, Sustainability, Food & Beverage, and key city and venue partners to ensure clean, safe, and environmentally responsible Games‑time operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Planning
Establish specific cleaning and waste management plans for each competition and non‑competition venue
Build contingency plans to address sanitation challenges, waste overflow, and emergency response situations
Integrate cleaning and waste services into overall venue operational plans, ensuring seamless coordination with other functional areas
Venue Operations Management
Oversee the successful delivery of cleaning and waste services across all Games venues and locations
Manage deployment and scheduling of cleaning and waste service providers, ensuring adequate coverage for both front‑of‑house and back‑of‑house areas
Implement real‑time monitoring systems to track waste collection, disposal efficiency, and service performance
Ensure rapid‑response cleaning and waste support for high‑traffic or high‑visibility zones
Support Games‑time workforce training on cleaning standards, waste policies, and emergency response procedures
Stakeholder Relations
Working with the Head of Cleaning and Waste to define service levels, KPIs, and expected timelines for cleaning and waste operations in collaboration with LA28 venue and stakeholder leads
Partner with city agencies, venue owners, and contracted service providers to ensure integrated delivery and compliance
Serve as primary liaison for venue cleaning and waste partners during pre‑Games testing, readiness, and Games‑time operations
Sustainability & Environmental Impact
Ensure cleaning and waste strategies align with LA28’s sustainability and legacy goals
Champion waste reduction, recycling, composting, and circular economy initiatives in partnership with the Sustainability and Food & Beverage teams
Support initiatives to minimize single‑use materials, integrate reuse models, and manage responsible end‑of‑life waste disposal at venues
Collaborate with environmental agencies and partners to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Lead the venue cleaning and waste command function during Games‑time operations, including coordination with Venue Management and Logistics
Monitor and report on cleaning and waste performance metrics and issue escalation during Games‑time
Ensure operational continuity and rapid issue resolution during all phases of Games delivery
7+ years of experience managing large‑scale cleaning and/or waste management operations in sports, events, or venue environments
Proven experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing external vendors in a high‑pressure environment
Experience with Olympic, Paralympic or major event operations ideal
Experience with venues LA/surrounding region venues preferred
Strong knowledge of sustainability practices, recycling, and waste diversion strategies
Experience negotiating and managing contracts
Excellent stakeholder management, project planning, organizational, and communication skills
Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment
Demonstrated commitment to delivering operational excellence and sustainable outcomes
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience required
Experience delivering cleaning and waste programs for Olympic and/or Paralympic Games or large‑scale events preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to work on‑site in Los Angeles, CA
Most work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment
The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment
The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 – $140,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
