The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store located in Sedalia, Missouri, is looking for a Thrift Store Worker! This position is expected to perform all functions of a thrift store worker – working with customers; lifting and carrying donated or purchased items; sorting clothes; pricing items; preparing and placing items for display on the sales floor; operating a cash register and making change for purchased items; counting, reconciling the cash drawer, and making bank deposits at the end of day. The majority of the work will be of a physical labor type. Basic communication and math skills to make change are required.

This is a part‑time position, under 20 hours per week, with a starting pay of $13.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

  • Interact with customers and other staff in a manner which promotes positive relationships.
  • Sort donated items.
  • Price donated items.
  • Place donated items on racks/shelves for display.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of the store's truck, customers' vehicles, and/or donors' vehicles.
  • Perform clerk/cashier activities.
  • Perform store custodial duties as directed, including washing windows, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping/vacuuming/mopping floors, and disposing of trash. Each employee may be assigned to clean the break area.
  • Help keep the showroom clean and neat at all times when the store is open.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent diploma and one year of related work experience or two years of work experience without a diploma.
  • Ability to comprehend written job descriptions, cleaning instructions, and material safety data sheets.
  • Must be able to operate a cash register, make correct change for items sold, and be bondable.
  • Position requires basic communication with customers and other employees.
  • Must be a team player, a self‑starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Must be capable of performing the essential duties.
  • Capable of continuously lifting 5 pounds, frequently lifting 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequently moving 50 or more pounds using a dolly/cart/truck.
  • Most work will be indoors.
  • The display room is a temperature‑controlled environment; the sorting/back room/storage area will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
