Junior Accountant

About the Role: Our nonprofit organization is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to support our day-to-day accounting operations. This role will assist with general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable processing, and monthly close activities. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, comfortable working in a mission-driven environment, and able to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and integrity. Key Responsibilities: Assist with daily accounting functions, including processing invoices, expense reimbursements, and payment requests.

Support accounts receivable activities such as posting receipts, preparing deposits, and following up on outstanding items.

Prepare and maintain general ledger entries under the supervision of senior accounting staff.

Assist with monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.

Support month-end close tasks, including journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.

Help maintain accurate and organized financial documentation for audits and grant reporting.

Assist with tracking restricted and unrestricted funds and ensuring proper coding of expenses.

Coordinate with program managers to collect financial information and clarify coding or budget questions.

Participate in audit preparation by gathering documents and preparing basic schedules.

Support process improvements and help strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls.

Provide general administrative and finance support as needed.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

0-2 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience or internships are a plus.

Basic understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.

Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, MIP, NetSuite) preferred.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

A team-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.
