Overview

To be part of our organization, every employee should understand and share in the YNHHS Vision, support our Mission, and live our Values. These values—integrity, patient‑centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion—must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is a licensed professional provider who functions in collaboration with an attending physician in a variety of practice settings at YNHHS. They provide exceptional direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care to the highest standards of the organization as part of a multidisciplinary team. They cultivate a patient‑centric environment that addresses the whole individual—including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and functional needs of the patient, family, and significant others—and serve as the focal professional for continuity of care within scope‑of‑practice and specialty‑specific standards. Responsibilities

Clinical Care – The PA or NP provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. They may work in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings, handle diagnostic to prognostic matters, collaborate with supervising physicians per state law and hospital regulations, and provide autonomous team‑based care where permitted. They obtain medical histories, perform examinations, review and order diagnostics, formulate treatment plans, and may perform procedures, prescribe medications, and function as a first or second assistant on operative cases within scope and educational prerequisites. Other clinical duties align with departmental goals and may include emergency response. Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – The PA or NP educates patients/families on care and available resources, collaborates with supervising physicians on admissions, treatment plans, medication side effects, and discharge planning, and provides psychosocial support to patients and their families in a caring, ethical, and professional manner. Information Management – The PA or NP ensures appropriate documentation per hospital and regulatory requirements and protects all forms of information from unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. Quality Management – The PA or NP demonstrates high standards of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care, and ensures compliance with patient‑related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards, and recommendations. Professional Development – The PA or NP continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency, serves as a clinical resource for new staff, provides orientation, reports safety events, mentors students, and collaborates on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects.
