Tenex Capital Management is seeking a Director of Information Technology (IT) to join a Portfolio Company in the Midwest. The Director of IT is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the organization’s technology strategies and operations. This role involves leading a small team of IT professionals, ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of IT systems, and aligning technology initiatives with the overall business goals. The Director of IT will also play a key role in driving innovation, managing budgets, and collaborating with other departments to deliver high-quality technological solutions.
This position will be on-site at the Portfolio Company in the Midwest.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement the IT strategy in alignment with the organization’s objectives.
Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and prioritize IT initiatives that support business growth and efficiency.
Provide strategic direction on emerging technologies and how they can be leveraged to enhance business processes.
IT Operations Management
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the IT department, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and meet the needs of the business.
Manage and optimize IT infrastructure in partnership with an existing MSP, including networks, servers, databases, and cloud services.
Ensure effective IT service management practices are in place, including incident management, problem management, and service request fulfillment.
Team Leadership and Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IT professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Recruit, train, and retain top IT talent, ensuring the team has the skills needed to meet current and future challenges.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and set goals for team members.
Cybersecurity and Risk Management
Develop and implement cybersecurity strategies to protect the organization’s data and systems from threats.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Conduct regular risk assessments and develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Budgeting and Financial Management
Prepare and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost‑effective use of resources while meeting business needs.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within the IT department.
Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers.
Negotiate contracts, manage vendor performance, and ensure the delivery of high-quality IT products and services.
Evaluate and select technology solutions that align with the organization’s needs and budget.
Project Management
Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
Implement project management best practices and methodologies to drive successful project outcomes.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements, objectives, and success criteria.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement innovative technologies that drive business value and competitive advantage.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the IT department, encouraging the adoption of new tools, processes, and methodologies.
Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of technology.
Multi‑Company Integration
Evaluate add‑on company technology stack and work with local leadership and teams to align on integration roadmap.
Successfully support, manage, and complete integration of software, technology, MSP, and other areas identified.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field required.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
Proven experience in developing and implementing IT strategies and managing IT operations.
Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and emerging technologies.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience with budget management and vendor negotiations.
Previous leadership of company integrations, specifically for technology and software.
Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
Strategic thinking and the ability to align IT initiatives with business objectives.
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of IT professionals.
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
