Senior Database Developer (SQL) (Remote from Washington) Lead the design, development, and optimization of complex database systems that support critical business operations. Work in a highly collaborative, remote‑first environment translating business needs into scalable data models and building reliable frameworks to ensure performance, security, and data integrity. Influence database standards, drive quality assurance efforts, and contribute to high‑impact system architecture while staying hands‑on with advanced development work.

Accountabilities

Define and implement database standards, requirements, and quality assurance protocols for all deliverables, from conceptual design to security policies.

Translate business requirements into logical data models that accurately reflect entity relationships and data flows.

Build and maintain physical database models, including schemas, tables, columns, reports, and system components for optimal performance and scalability.

Recommend improvements to enhance operating efficiency, data governance, recovery processes, and storage utilization.

Participate in quality assurance activities and develop test application code in a client–server environment.

Support ongoing database maintenance, capacity planning, and vendor‑related software updates.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 14+ years of experience, Master’s with 12+ years, or PhD with 9+ years, plus a minimum of 5–7 years in SQL development and database management.

Proven experience working with complex database systems and data warehousing solutions.

Strong expertise in SQL programming, query optimization, performance tuning, indexing, and troubleshooting.

Deep knowledge of major DBMS platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Experience with data modeling, database architecture, ETL tools (SSIS, Informatica, Talend), and data warehousing concepts.

Understanding of backup, recovery, database security, user roles, and permissions.

Familiarity with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL Database.

Ability to automate tasks using scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.

Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.

Experience with version control systems, Agile methodologies, mentoring junior developers, and advanced DB certifications is a plus.

US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
