Summary
The System Engineer is responsible for effective installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. The system administration tasking will be focused on improving stability and performance of the system, maintaining and improving the security posture, continuous monitoring of system health, and troubleshooting issues that arise. Responsibilities
Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs. Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Manage virtualization platform (VMware, KVM, etc.). Manage storage (NetApp, Dell/EMC, PureStorage, etc.). Support infra automation tools (Ansible). Use system inventory system (GLPI). Manage network equipment (Cisco, Mellanox, etc.). Install and configure systems that support infrastructure and/or R&D activities. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Configure/maintain storage equipment and troubleshoot with vendors. Configure/install EDA tools, FlexLM licenses, and troubleshoot software tool issues. Contribute to and maintain system standards. Contribute to and maintain security posture of the systems. Research and recommend innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Install and maintain security patches on operational and development systems (Red Hat Linux, Windows, VMware, Apache, etc.). Report Security Patch compliance. Perform daily system monitoring, verify integrity and availability of hardware, servers, systems, and key processes. Perform regular security monitoring for intrusions. Perform daily backup operations and manage media. Perform regular file archival and purge as needed. Create, change, and delete user accounts per request. Provide Tier III support and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Apply OS patches and upgrades, upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Manage existing and deploy new instances of JIRA, Git, LDAP, Jenkins, VMware environments. Upgrade and configure system software supporting infrastructure or asset management applications. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization. Provide after-hours, weekend, or alternative work schedule support as required. Requirements
High skill level in VMware administration and management, Jenkins, Git, and DevOps tool administration. Network equipment management experience; Cisco equipment preferred. 5+ years of system administration experience in Linux environments; proficiency in shell scripting, cron jobs, log analysis, user and group management, iptables configuration, and mail services setup. Proven ability to multi-task. Effective verbal and written communication skills with technical and non-technical personnel. CompTIA Security+ (SY0-301) or equivalent DoD 8570.1 Workplace Improvement Plan IAT Level II certification. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to move servers to/from main data center, colocation, and labs. Experience installing new hardware or migrating existing servers (rack and stack). Pay & Benefits
Pay range is $40–$45 per hour with full benefits available, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401(k), parental leave, and more.
