Position Title & Code DB2 Engineer

Location Washington, DC 20003 (Hybrid)

Project End Date 09/30/2026 (With possible extension to next fiscal year)

Short Description Mainframe DB2 Systems Programmer with 16+ years of experience managing and maintaining DB2 databases on IBM System Z mainframes.

Responsibilities

Lead the adoption or implementation of an advanced technology or platform.

Act as an expert on the functionality or usage of a particular system, platform, or technology product.

Serve as a consultant to clients, guiding the efficient use or adoption of a particular IT product or platform.

Create implementation, testing, and/or integration plans.

Plan, design, and implement standards, naming conventions, and ongoing deployment of a multi‑data center DB2 environment, including disaster recovery, high availability, and data center relocation projects. Must have extensive experience with the installation, support, and roll‑out of DB2 components, BMC Tools and Utilities, and related products. Must have complete familiarity with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and IBM utilities. Desired experience with SMP/E, Sysplex environments, and DB2 integration with WLM. Provide technical support to application and data center staff. Additional desired skills include Oracle, SQL, z/VM, Linux, and MVS systems, as well as familiarity with the BMC MainView monitoring tool.

Exhibit excellent communication and presentation skills. Lead projects in support of data center initiatives and strategic goals.

Minimum Education / Certification Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Training or certification in a specific product or IT platform/service, as required.

Skill Assessment

16+ years leading advanced technology projects or service projects – Highly desired.

16+ years full system engineering lifecycle – Highly desired.

16+ years creating implementation/integration plans, test plans, and training materials – Desired.

16+ years hands‑on experience in a specific product or IT platform – Highly desired.

Bachelor's degree – Nice to have.

Industry certification/training in a specific IT product/platform or service – Nice to have.
