What Our Department Does SDSU Research Foundation’s Payroll department provides payroll services for 3,800 employees across nearly thirty states, including central staff, agency and project employees, KPBS, Global Campus, and The Campanile Foundation.

YOUR ROLE IN CREATING THE UNIVERSITY’S PRESENT AND FUTURE The Payroll Supervisor leads the day‑to‑day operations of the payroll department, supervising a team of five. Responsibilities include ensuring payroll accuracy, tax disbursements and reporting, compliance with federal, state, and agency requirements, and maintaining high‑level customer service.

Responsibilities

Manage payroll operations for annual federal gross wages exceeding $100 million.

Ensure accuracy of payroll, tax disbursements, and reporting.

Maintain compliance with federal and state tax reporting, labor laws, and payroll standards.

Apply and enforce company policies, internal controls, and procedures.

Serve as liaison with funding agencies and university departments.

Provide training and professional development opportunities to staff.

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of financial record‑keeping and payroll-related reporting.

Professional and courteous representation of the organization.

Strong customer service focus and communication skills.

Ability to review documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Maintain corporate financial records and correct errors.

Interpret and apply written policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Prioritize workload and make sound decisions.

Analyze accounting data and solve complex problems.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Effective teamwork and staff training experience.

Experience And Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent HR, payroll, accounting, finance, or related administrative experience.

Four years of progressive responsibility in HR, payroll, or financial duties, including analytical work and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).

Experience with Ellucian Banner Payroll and workforce time‑keeping software.

Background in multi‑state payroll compliance and non‑resident alien regulations.

Knowledge of federal and California labor and payroll tax laws.

Experience supervising payroll staff and managing payroll operations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and payroll/time‑keeping systems.
