Senior Research Scientist – Howard University Job Purpose

The Division of Urogynecology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Howard University College of Medicine seeks a Senior Research Scientist to coordinate and execute studies addressing pelvic floor disorders, health disparities, and women’s health outcomes among underserved populations in the DMV area. Principal Accountabilities

Coordinate the day-to-day operations of clinical, translational, and community-based research studies. Prepare and submit Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, amendments, and continuing reviews. Oversee recruitment, enrollment, informed consent, and data collection procedures. Maintain high standards of research integrity, regulatory compliance, and participant confidentiality. Collaborate with investigators on data analysis, manuscript development, and conference abstracts. Utilize REDCap, Qualtrics, and other platforms to manage and monitor data. Support the development and application of implementation science frameworks to improve uptake of evidence-based interventions. Assist in identifying barriers and facilitators to care among patients with pelvic floor disorders. Contribute to the adaptation and scaling of culturally responsive interventions in clinical and community settings. Participate in grant writing focused on implementation research and practice-based outcomes. Develop and maintain strong relationships with community-based organizations, patient advocates, and advisory boards. Coordinate outreach activities including focus groups, education sessions, and community events. Adapt research findings into lay-friendly materials for public dissemination. Serve as a liaison between the research team, clinical partners, and the community. Lead the co‑creation of engagement strategies that promote trust and improve participation among historically underserved populations. Assist with budget tracking, invoicing, and purchasing related to study activities. Support the coordination of research meetings, documentation, and logistics. Help maintain progress reports and deliverables for internal and external stakeholders. Conduct workshops that will benefit staff working with targeted populations and make public presentations regarding the research projects. Conduct extensive literature reviews required to complete the major project. Participate actively in report writing and preparation of manuscripts for scholarly journals as well as general audiences. Core Competencies

Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience working in academic medical centers or clinical research teams. Experience in study coordination and clinical recruitment. Familiarity with pelvic floor disorders, urogynecology, or health services research, qualitative research, and implementation science. Track record of contributing to peer-reviewed publications and/or funded research. Commitment to advancing health equity, particularly among Black women and other underserved populations. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relations with faculty, staff, students, and external entities. Strong planning, organizing, and coordinating skills. Ability to multi‑task efficiently. Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree with at least two years of experience or Ph.D. or MD in a scientific or research discipline related to the project, plus one year of advanced and comprehensive research experience. Salary Range

$100,000–$110,000 Benefits
