Job Description Reporting to the Executive Director of Undergraduate Admission, the Admission Counselor is responsible for all aspects of admission recruiting to include delivering on‑campus and off‑campus admissions programs, reviewing freshman applications for undergraduate admission and networking, and building relationships between high school counselors, prospective students, and parents. This entry‑level position is designed to give candidates an introduction to careers in Higher Education. Candidates must be willing and able to organize and handle all aspects of administration and adhere to the rules and regulations of Hofstra University, the Colonial Athletic Conference, and the NCAA. Evening and weekend hours may be required in support of special projects and events.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Conduct presentations with visiting students, parents, and high school counselors regarding admission and financial aid process, policies, and procedures.

Maintain communication with prospective students from across the country via email, phone, and text message through all stages of the recruitment and admission process.

Speak to groups and individual students and meet with school officials to develop partnerships between the University and high schools throughout an assigned geographic region.

Interview prospective students and candidates for admission.

Represent the University Admissions Office at evening college fairs, college nights, and admissions panels.

Serve as the primary contact and reader of applications for admission for designated applicant pool(s).

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum 0–1 years of related experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of admissions experience preferred.

Familiarity with computerized admissions and financial aid systems, such as Ellucian Banner and Slate.

Working knowledge of PC‑based word processing and spreadsheet programs.
