System Medical Director of Endoscopy

Position Summary The
System Medical Director of Endoscopy
provides visionary clinical and administrative leadership for all inpatient and ambulatory endoscopy units across Endeavor Health. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, quality, and efficiency in the delivery of endoscopic services. The Medical Director oversees all medical aspects of endoscopy operations, leads multidisciplinary collaboration, and drives systemwide performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational excellence. Working in a dyad partnership with the Vice President for GI Labs, the System Medical Director plays a critical role in shaping and advancing the Endeavor Health brand for endoscopic care across the organization’s entire geographic footprint.
Position Highlights
Position: System Medical Director of Endoscopy – EHMG board certified or board eligible (endoscopy fellowship trained)
Location: TBD
Full time – 40 hours per week, 46 weeks per year

Salary range: TBD – dependent on FTE, prior experience, certifications, degrees, subspecialties, projected volumes, and quality performance measures
Key Responsibilities
Oversees clinical services provided to patients by the endoscopist
Provides input and support to the lab’s administrative leadership regarding clinical practice of nursing and tech teams
Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and best practices in line with current medical standards and regulatory requirements
Implements clinical initiatives to advance standardization and minimize variability across Endeavor Health endoscopy sites
Interfaces with Endeavor Health Medical Group and Gastroenterology Service Line leadership to craft and operationalize system-wide strategy for delivery of endoscopic services, including facilities planning and design and site-based clinical programming
Ensures adherence to evidence-based practice guidelines, infection prevention standards, and regulatory compliance (CMS, Joint Commission, ASGE)
Works with medical staff leadership to ensure appropriate credentialing and privileging of physicians performing endoscopy
Serves as a clinical mentor to staff physicians, fellows, nurses, and technicians
Brand ambassador: defines patient experience for endoscopic practice within Endeavor Health
Quality & Safety
Accountable for the quality of care provided in Endeavor Health endoscopy units
Leads development and implementation of QAPI programs for endoscopy services
Monitors key performance indicators (e.g., adenoma detection rate, cecal intubation rate, procedure turnaround times, adverse event rates)
Reviews and analyses incident reports and complications, ensuring timely corrective action and participation in M&M
Champions patient safety culture and compliance with sedation, reprocessing, and infection control policies
Operational Management
Determines Endeavor Health endoscopy operating model
Identifies solutions to bridge gaps in the operating model across the health system
Participates in budget planning, capital equipment acquisition, and supply chain management
Plans for the Endeavor Health endoscopy formulary for supplies
Interfaces with Anesthesiology leadership to plan anesthesia services
Ensures adequate staffing levels, appropriate case mix, and efficient throughput
Supports achievement of monthly and annual budget targets
Supports strategic planning to expand and modernize endoscopy services
Qualifications Minimum Education Level
Graduate of an accredited and recognized medical school required
Minimum Licensure Requirements
Eligible for medical licensing in the State of Illinois
Minimum Certification Requirements
Board certification or eligibility in Endoscopic Medicine
