Role Overview
As our Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer for Ads Technology (Ads Tech), you will be responsible for developing, designing machine learning models, optimization algorithms, and new product features for our advertising platform. The Ads Technology group provides marketing products and services to vendors selling on Coupang, driving brand and product visibility within our e-commerce website. This role involves building a scalable ad quality stack that may evolve into a full ad exchange, DSP, and SSP, and leading the formation of a new full‑stack engineering organization.
What You Will Do
Design features and build large‑scale machine learning models and systems to improve ad targeting, relevance, ranking, and engagement.
Develop new techniques for automated mechanisms such as automated bidding and query expansion to enhance advertising platform efficiency.
Create features that provide suggestion tools for advertisers to identify marketplace opportunities and improve ROI.
Architect our machine learning platform at internet scale.
Lead projects across teams and mentor junior developers.
Collaborate with product and sales teams to design and implement new ad product features.
Basic Qualifications
10+ years of industry software engineering experience in machine learning, statistics, or information retrieval.
Deep knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling.
Excellent communicator to both technical and business audiences.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Self‑starter and innovator who solves complex problems.
Proven track record of taking ownership and delivering results.
Ability to deal with ambiguity in business and technology.
Experience working in cross‑cultural, cross‑functional teams.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with AWS.
Experience with advertising systems, search advertising, or advertising marketplaces.
Experience working in a startup environment.

Compensation The base pay for this position ranges from $159,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $324,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by factors such as market location, job knowledge, skills, and experience.
