Director of Procurement & Vendor Management
Position Summary
MBX Biosciences is seeking a high-performing and proactive Director of Procurement & Vendor Management, reporting to the Senior Director, Controller. This role is critical to our pre‑clinical and clinical stage drug development activities to optimize spend, ensure timely vendor deliverables and drive our global CMC and Clinical outsourcing strategy. This role requires strong negotiation skills, acumen for risk assessment and cost optimization, and a deep understanding of how to manage a broad base of strategic suppliers throughout the drug development cycle. Communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to multi‑task, are key to successful incumbents consistently functioning at the highest level with the utmost regard for the MBX’s mission & values.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies tailored to the pre‑clinical and clinical development needs of all R&D functions (Clinical, CMC, pre‑clinical, regulatory, etc.)
Lead vendor evaluation, selection, negotiation, and contract management processes, ensuring competitive pricing, quality assurance, and compliance with industry standards such as GxP and FDA regulation.
Oversee all communication with CROs and CDMOs regarding contracts, scope of work and budgets.
Oversee project risk management, identifying potential delays to drug development timelines or cost overruns on budgets.
Develop and grow relationships with strategic suppliers to maximize value creation for internal and external partners.
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, including Clinical, CMC, Pharmacology, Toxicology and Finance, to ensure efficient completion of development programs on‑time and within budgets.
Organize and lead all major RFP processes for R&D functions and communicate leading practices in supplier management activities to internal stakeholders.
Drive fair market value assessments with cross‑functional teams and vendors during the course of negotiating initial work orders and subsequent change orders.
Establish and manage the vendor governance process with key vendors. Document key decisions and action plans and ensure compliance with the decisions established in governance meetings.
Work with study teams to establish KPI process and help establish standard vendor KPIs to enhance vendor oversight and performance.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, engineering, economics, business administration, supply chain management, or finance; advanced degrees preferred, but not required.
Minimum 7 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or drug development roles, with at least 3 years of leadership roles within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industries.
Proven expertise in regulatory compliance, including knowledge of FDA, GxP, and other international standards relevant to pre‑clinical and clinical drug development.
Adept at spend management with experience utilizing contract management software (e.g. LinkSquares) and accounting ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite).
Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders.
Meticulous attention to detail and a proactive, resourceful mindset.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial, and collaborative environment.
Travel You will be expected to travel based on the needs of the business to the extent requested by the Company, including but not limited to attendance to Together Weeks, Together Days and functional meetings as requested by the Company.
