as a Senior Engineering Manager for Query Infrastructure. Mixpanel is a leading event analytics platform that enables teams to answer data questions without SQL. Our customers include Netflix, Pinterest, Sweetgreen, and Samsara.
About the Team The query team builds and maintains Mixpanel’s next-generation query infrastructure, which includes designing fundamental query primitives, optimizing query planning and scheduling, handling multi-tenant resource allocation, identifying bottlenecks, and meeting performance and uptime SLAs. The team is structured around 6‑8 week sprints, cross‑functional collaboration, and structured prioritization through written proposals.
Role Overview As an engineering manager, you will scale the team’s impact through hiring, culture, and execution. You’ll streamline priority decisions against clear technical and business goals.
Responsibilities
Hiring and retaining diverse and talented engineers
Mentoring engineers and cultivating future technical leaders
Working cross‑functionally to translate business goals into the team’s roadmap
Promoting engineering excellence through culture and process
Providing input to technical designs with deep understanding of our systems and services
Ensuring the query service uptime and performance SLO/SLAs are met
Working with customers to improve their query performance
Qualifications
Prior experience building, maintaining, and scaling reliable, high‑volume distributed systems
Ability to reason about ambiguous problems and propose creative solutions
Strong CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems)
Track record of mentoring and growing engineers
Bonus Points For
Prior engineering management experience in high‑volume, stateful distributed systems within SaaS environments
Experience with database technologies and internal design/implementation
Experience with multi‑tenant systems focusing on reliability, performance, isolation, and security
Compensation The total target cash compensation (TTCC) ranges from $236,522 – $320,000 USD and includes base salary and variable compensation. Equity consideration and additional benefits are also provided.
