Chief Executive Officer at Ingenuity Prep Public Charter School
Ingenuity Prep equips PreK through Middle School students in Southeast, Washington DC, to excel academically and as civic leaders by combining high expectations with strong support for both students and teachers, fostering innovative classrooms, robust teacher development, and measurable student success that closes opportunity gaps.
About The Organization Established in 2013, Ingenuity Prep Public Charter School was founded with the goal of bringing more quality school seats to the Southeast corner of Washington DC. Starting with a PreK and Kindergarten, Ingenuity Prep added a grade each year after its founding, and it now serves just under 800 students in grades PreK–3 through 8th grade.
Serving a student body that is 98% Black and where 74% face significant economic barriers, Ingenuity Prep is committed to creating a place where ALL students can learn, create deep relationships, and become impactful civic leaders. The organization operates on one campus with three academy principals (Early Childhood, Elementary School, and Middle School), approximately 180 staff (86% who identify as BIPOC and 78% as Black), and a leadership team that supports all three academies.
Ingenuity Prep is a supportive school community dedicated to academic rigor and civic leadership, preparing students for the path to the colleges and careers of their choosing. Our innovative instructional model promotes small-group learning, collaborative teaching teams, and robust coaching and professional development for teachers and staff. Ingenuity Prep provides a quality option for families in Southeast DC, and has been recognized for its academic achievement and growth including a Bold Performance Award in 2019 and previously earning Tier 1 status from the DC Public Charter School Board.
What We're About:
We seek to cultivate learners who are academically successful, social-emotionally skilled, impactful civic leaders.
Core Principles
Community & Relationships: Community and relationships are integral parts of academic and personal development. Our teachers take time to build meaningful connections with students; we support students to build relationships with each other, and we partner with our families. We are also committed active citizens in our community.
Equity of Access: At Ingenuity Prep we strive to provide the Southeast DC community with a school that levels the educational playing field for its students, providing high quality instruction and rich educational opportunities, equipping them to succeed at the same high levels as other students in the US and in other countries.
Cornerstones Of Our Program
Rigorous Content and Individualized Instruction: We set high academic standards and create the circumstances for students to achieve academic excellence, leveraging a robust curriculum, high quality lessons, data-driven instruction, teacher specialization, small class sizes, and technology.
Civic Leadership: We believe academic excellence is not sufficient to prepare students for the demands of 21st century leadership. We equip students to pursue their passions and to think, speak, and act positively on behalf of themselves, their community, the country, and the world.
Enrichment: We provide daily opportunities for students to pursue interest areas outside traditional academics, supporting growth and motivation.
