About the Role The Special Projects Division of KPFF is looking for an ambitious, initiative‑driven Civil Transportation Engineer to strengthen our dynamic team in Seattle or Tacoma, WA. You will work on heavy civil and industrial infrastructure projects, refining your expertise in roadway and transportation improvements, design, project management, and client service.

What You’ll Be Doing Civil Design and Development

Apply engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions in linear utility projects, street improvements, design/build initiatives, and transportation infrastructure.

Contribute to waterfront and industrial development projects, leveraging your skills to drive successful outcomes.

Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including permitting requirements.

Identify and overcome challenges through innovative problem‑solving, using both traditional and modern engineering techniques.

Project Leadership

Assist in managing project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources.

Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.

Client Engagement and Exceptional Service

Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs and providing clear communication.

Serve as a trusted advisor, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all project phases.

Who We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification.

Minimum 4 years of full‑time experience in civil/site development engineering design.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Advanced MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads design experience.

ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and other engineering design software proficiency is a plus.

Strong knowledge of construction methods and techniques.

Experience in preparing roadway/transportation design documents and specifications.

Waterfront and industrial site infrastructure experience desirable.

Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Plans and Specifications and Design Manual.

Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment.

Enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.

Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Duties are primarily performed in an office setting with prolonged sitting.

Occasional lifting of objects up to 15 lbs.

Field inspections may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.

Travel to project sites or client meetings, including driving or flying.

Compensation The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate with 4+ years of experience is $104,000–$130,000, with performance‑based bonuses as part of the overall package.
