Job Summary
Massachusetts General Hospital employs you as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. You analyze and evaluate clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and make recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff. Sign‑on bonus available: $15,000.
Essential Functions
Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients, including moderate complexity point‑of‑care testing for Blood Gas Analysis.
Responds to respiratory emergencies, including high‑risk deliveries, and transports patients as indicated.
Prepares appropriate care plans and makes specific recommendations to physicians for indicated therapy; schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures, including NICU‑specific therapies.
Makes regular bedside rounds and administers respiratory care modalities to assigned patients; modifies treatment care plans according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, patients, and families.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Licensed Respiratory Therapist in Massachusetts required.
1–2 years NICU experience preferred; Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (certified) preferred.
Proficiency as a subject‑matter expert in respiratory therapy and effective communication with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines.
Strong assessment and clinical judgment to prepare appropriate care plans and make recommendations to physicians.
Strong communication skills; ability to walk distances, push medical equipment weighing less than 100 lbs, and stand immobile for long periods.
