Job Description
Apex Systems is seeking a Network Security Engineer for a large financial client's Infrastructure and Operations organization. This Engineer will possess technical expertise and engineering skill allowing them to grow into a leading subject matter expert for both Investor and Advisor themed technology as well as enabling cloud‑based solutions. This individual must be able to work in a fast paced, start‑up like environment, assist to identify requirements and facilitate implementation, while following appropriate change control and release processes.
Compensation Pay Range: $68‑72 per hour.
Contract Length 6‑month contract.
Hybrid Schedule 3 days onsite, 2 days remote per week. Locations: Fort Mill, SC or Austin, TX.
Primary Responsibilities
Promote hands‑on, white glove customer service experience supporting all client environments.
Maintain on‑prem and cloud‑based computer networks from a Network Security perspective (Firewall and Load Balancing).
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve problems, as well as design and implement network security solutions.
Collaborate with Project Managers around project tasks.
Assist with coordinating changes across multiple systems.
Follow and contribute to policies, procedures, and standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or technical institute degree/certificate or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge/Experience in the following skill sets:
General understanding of firewall technology both on‑premise and cloud.
Experience managing Cisco FTD and Palo Alto firewalls highly desired.
Knowledge of native firewalls in AWS and Azure a plus.
Working knowledge of network security products such as DDoS, proxy, VPN, firewall orchestration, etc.
Ability to work with developers on firewall rule creation and troubleshoot logs for remediation.
Familiarity with security‑related technologies in a regulated environment.
Experience with scripting (Python, PowerShell, JSON, YAML, etc.).
Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
Advanced troubleshooting skills to assist teams in isolating root cause of incidents and issues.
Understanding of Service Mesh Technology.
Understanding of Network Security Best Practices.
Understanding of Linux and/or Microsoft Windows environments.
Understanding of VMware environments.
Ability to work on efforts independently and in a proactive fashion.
Agile/Scrum experience a plus.
