Summary The objective of the Space Development group is to provide innovative technology solutions to ensure our Nation achieves and maintains space superiority in a multi-domain conflict. We’re looking for a Software Engineer to develop space combat power and multi-domain simulation software that will support force structure planning, Digital Test and Training – Synthetic Environment, Joint Combatant Command analysis, operations support, Space Force testing and training, and research and development of space systems. This role will be on-site at Kirtland AFB.
What You Will Do
Collaborate with the team using Confluence, Discourse, GitLab, and Jira
Perform code reviews and ensure high-quality standards
Partner with government leadership to align objectives
Capture customer requirements and feedback
Provide status updates and progress reports to leadership and customers
Conduct multidisciplinary research to support modeling and simulation goals
Contribute to software architecture and team vision discussions
Design, develop, document, test, and debug space simulation software
What You Must Have
9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience
Strong proficiency in C++, including compiling, linking, and debugging
Successful completion of a technical coding challenge in C++
Hands‑on experience with agent‑based, event‑driven modeling and simulation (constructive simulation experience preferred)
Experience with space systems and concepts (coordinate systems, time, orbital propagation, etc.)
Ability to analyze complex challenges, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions under pressure
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret/SCI clearance
Preferred Requirements
Proficiency in Python, including embedded Python applications
Knowledge of space domain awareness and space combat power
Background in math or physics
Familiarity with parallel software development
Familiarity with U.S. and Allied space enterprise positions
Physical Requirements Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the Software Engineer family.
