Position Summary Position Summary: This position is responsible for staff supervision and involvement of parents in the educational programs at assigned Head Start classroom sites, while overseeing and organizing day-to-day operations of assigned sites. The Site Coordinator facilitates the well‑being of children by utilizing proper early childhood developmentally appropriate practices and techniques.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, the Site Coordinator is responsible for supporting the education component in meeting or exceeding the Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Childcare Licensing, Paths to Quality, NAEYC Standards, SCCAP Head Start Policies and Procedures, SCCAP Employee Handbook regulations and local grant goals and objectives. The following duties are normal for this position; they should not be construed as a complete list. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Classroom Support and Management:
Will not leave children unattended or unsupervised in accordance with SCCAP policies and procedures while children are in the care of SCCAP employees. Failure to comply would be considered child neglect and endangerment. Ensures reporting of all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect, as required by law, is done in accordance with SCCAP policies and procedures. Supports classroom by assisting in the development, monitoring, and evaluating the progress of component goals and objectives. Ensures that the education component adequately addresses child outcomes by providing leadership to the education staff and program staff on developing, designing curricula around and responding to child outcomes. Conducts monthly teacher and/or teacher‑team meetings. Assists with scheduling parent/teacher conferences.
Monitoring, Record Keeping and Reporting:
Performs record keeping of internal and external reporting tasks. Prepares and submits accurate reports. Functions as the Licensing Specialist for State Child Care Licensing; reviews licensing site reports. Oversees the correction of any non‑compliances within required timelines. Addresses any maintenance, health and safety issues at all classroom and playground locations. Conducts CLASS classroom observations bi‑annually in assigned preschool classrooms.
Human Resources Management:
Provides guidance and direction to assign education staff, evaluates or provides input into staff evaluations, assesses and secures training opportunities and resources for staff development. Attends various meetings, workshops and conferences to maintain professional development and continue growth. Communicates effectively with all levels of program staff in a way that builds relationships and trust. Is responsible for solving issues regarding staff scheduling, operations and procedures. Oversees training of all classroom staff and volunteers. Provides ongoing mentoring and coaching for teaching staff at assigned sites.
Community Relations:
Maintains ongoing relationships with public school personnel and other early childhood care educators and services, including working with local kindergarten programs to coordinate the transition of children and families. Engages parents in volunteering, community service and other ways of contributing to program activities and services. Responsible for managing all open houses for assigned site with the assistance of the Family Advocate. Participates and supports at least four events annually (HS program year) hosted/sponsored by SCCAP. Actively participates in securing in‑kind contributions from families, professionals, and community members. Provides opportunities for children and families to participate in family literacy services.
Education & Experience
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, CDA credential for Infant and Toddler Caregivers, or advanced degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education.
Relevant experience working directly with infants and toddlers in early childhood classroom settings.
Commitment to following developmentally appropriate, evidence‑aligned best practices for the care and education of infants and toddlers.
Familiarity with relationship‑based, respectful approaches that emphasize responsive caregiving, early learning, and whole‑child development.
Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a classroom teaching team, guiding daily routines, fostering intentional, reflective practice, and maintaining a cohesive, respectful environment.
Experience observing, assessing, and responding to children's developmental, emotional, and social needs.
Proven experience communicating effectively with families and collaborating with colleagues and specialists to support children's individualized learning.
Strong reading, writing, and basic math skills; able to use computers and mobile devices for communication and documentation and to learn new software used in early childhood programs.
Bilingual skills are an asset and may enhance communication with families, though not required.
Required Skills & Abilities
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must maintain the integrity of confidential employment, client, and business information.
Must be philosophically aligned with SCCAP's mission and the Chandler Early Learning Center's approach to early learning, child development, and viewing children as whole, capable individuals.
Ability to apply professional judgment, discretion, and problem‑solving skills to support safe, respectful, and intentional classroom practices.
Physical & Mental Demands
Ability to lift, carry, and safely support infants and toddlers (up to 50 pounds), as well as lift, carry, push, or pull classroom equipment, materials, and supplies; other required physical tasks include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
Requires normal range of hearing and vision to observe and respond to children's activities and needs.
Must be able to handle diverse work problems on a daily basis, set priorities, and adjust to changing circumstances or last‑minute demands.
Requires personal maturity, a pleasant and professional demeanor, and the ability to relate and interact respectfully with children, families, and staff in a culturally diverse environment.
Must maintain focus, attention, and patience to ensure safe, intentional, and responsive interactions with children and colleagues.
