Job Summary Supermicro Computer is seeking a skilled and experienced candidate to take on the responsibilities of Sr. Thermal Engineer. The position will be responsible for the thermal architecture, design, analysis, and validation of thermal technologies (including Liquid Cooling and air cooling technologies) within networking server and data storage products. The role utilizes and champions a design process based on estimating, simulating, and testing the thermal performance of new products and architectures. The ideal candidate will have outstanding leadership skill to lead junior engineers and possess a strong fundamental background in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and the implementation of thermal solutions in enterprise electronics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conceptualize, plan, and execute the design and development of Liquid/Air cooling solutions for servers, storages, and workstations
Collaborate with motherboard, chassis, power supply, and system teams to optimize system layout and component placement
Validate thermal compliance of systems and components with regards to industry standards
Summarize and present thermal/cooling technical data to engineering teams, vendors, and customers
Investigate and identify new techniques to advance cooling schemes and thermal managements
Interface with contract manufacturers and vendors for cooling solution developments and improvementsProvide thermal/cooling technical support from component to rack level
Qualifications
Bachelor or Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or equivalent training with minimum 8+ years direct IT/server industry experience
Experience working as a thermal, mechanical, or validation engineer in computer or electronics cooling development
Experience running CFD thermal/cooling simulation software (Icepak or FloTHERM)
Experience in liquid cooling solutions including coldplate/manifold design
Hands‑on experience working with heat sink, air shroud/fan duct designs and cooling fan/blower components
Hands‑on experience in computer system level thermal testing or validation, including thermocouple installations, automated data acquisitions, and related lab equipment operations
Experience running stress programs and scripts under Windows and Linux environments
Ability to handle multiple projects and make significant progress in a timely manner simultaneously
Strong communication skill, able to work efficiently in a team and fast‑paced environment
Salary Range $148,000 - $165,000
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
