Brooklyn Kindergarten Society – Early Childhood Education Director Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) is the original “born in Brooklyn” organization, founded in 1891. For 130 years BKS has provided high‑quality early childhood education to working families, offering full‑day, year‑round academic experiences for children ages 2‑5 years. Their play‑based curriculum integrates reading, writing, movement, music, and STEAM learning.

Compensation Base pay range:

$80,000.00/yr – $85,000.00/yr

Sign‑On Bonus:

$1,000 bonus for newly hired Early Childhood Education Directors, valid Aug 15 2025 – Dec 31 2025. The bonus is paid after successful completion of the 90‑day probationary period.

Job Purpose The Early Childhood Education Director ensures implementation of the Creative Curriculum model by teachers throughout the campus, monitors staff compliance, and maintains all regulations consistent with NYC DOH licensing and Article 47.

Scope of Influence

Preserves educational excellence through monitoring teaching staff for quality instruction.

Maintains center space in accordance with DOHMH and DOE requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Understand the goals, objectives, and vision of BKS.

Supervise all center staff (teachers, assistant teachers, teacher aides, cooks, assistants, bookkeepers, custodians).

Ensure full implementation of the Creative Curriculum, policies, procedures, and tools to support all children’s readiness goals.

Provide ongoing coaching to teaching staff, including:

Curriculum and Lesson Planning

Child Assessment

Meeting All Children’s Needs

Working with Families

Professional Growth and Collaboration

Health and Safety

Conduct formal and informal observations, provide actionable feedback, and implement the child assessment system.

Participate in recruitment and enrollment strategies and collaboration with the Family Services Department.

Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure city and state compliance.

Maintain record‑keeping processes, including health logs and required DOHMH/DOE paperwork.

Lead staff accountability for child health and safety program.

Coordinate with governing agencies (NYCHA, DOE, DOHMH) for permits, renewals, and budgets.

Attend DASPC meetings, present reports, and collaborate with family service members.

Manage food logs and weekly menus in partnership with cook staff.

Assign daily tasks to custodian and oversee NYCHA repair ticket process.

Job Requirements

NYS Professional ECE Certification B‑2, Valid NYS Permanent Certification B‑2 or N‑6, or Professional/ Permanent Childhood Education (P‑6).

2 years of experience working with children under 6.

Master’s in Early Childhood Education or related field.

Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and related DOE/NYCHA/DOHMH systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience with at least 10 direct reports.

Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5.

Experience working with low‑income populations and diverse cultures.
