Position Details Lehman College of the City University of New York is seeking a Dean for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). The mission of the SCPS is to provide workforce development services, such as education and training opportunities and the development of entrepreneurship and business expansion, to enhance the economic security of the Bronx. Through the variety of credit and non‑credit educational programs offered in the Adult Degree Program and Continuing Education Programs on the Lehman campus and CUNY on the Concourse, the SCPS provides access to higher education and professional training targeted toward Bronx residents and surrounding regions. The Dean is responsible for the operations of the School, which has an approximate budget of $5 million, 7,500 students, 250 full‑ and part‑time instructors and staff, over 300 credit and non‑credit courses (both in person and online), 35 credit and non‑credit certificate programs, children’s programs, and a bachelor's‑degree‑level Adult Degree Program designed to meet the special needs of mature men and women with family and work responsibilities. The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves on the Provost and Dean’s Council and the Extended Cabinet.
Provide strong, collaborative leadership for the operation, services and resources of the school, including support for extension centers (e.g., CUNY on the Concourse).
Lead strategic and operational planning and the formulation of goals, policies and procedures for the school; handle financial planning and budget development and management.
Provide vision and leadership to faculty, instructors and staff in fulfilling the school’s mission of outreach, continuing education and public service.
Ensure an effective organizational structure, including allocation of staff, and formulation of decision‑making groups and committees.
Advocate lifelong learning, community outreach and development, and collaboration with other schools, divisions and departments.
Provide leadership for the Adult Degree Program and the College’s focus on continuing and professional education, as well as certification programs.
Demonstrate continuous, proactive and creative improvement of operations, programming and services for adult and non‑traditional learners through reengineering work processes, new technology solutions, assessment of best practices and feedback from internal users and external customers to ensure internal controls and procedures are strengthened, services are delivered efficiently, and performance goals and targets are achieved.
Research ways of improving the school’s programs and their marketability in order to provide training in high‑demand areas and to prepare students for success in today’s competitive market.
Provide leadership in developing, implementing and maintaining curriculum and programs that respond to community needs and prepare students for success.
Ensure continuous quality improvement in all credit and non‑credit programs, including onsite training and children’s programs.
Generate revenue through contract courses, especially with unions (e.g., Local 1199), and develop strategies to diversify revenue streams and funding from non‑profit, governmental agencies and private corporations.
Maintain records and statistical data on the school and prepare reports.
Cultivate positive working relationships across the college to build customer confidence and satisfaction and promote a work culture of customer service, innovation and quality services to students, staff and the community.
Represent Lehman College with external constituencies internationally, in the community and within business and industry.
Collaborate with the college community to strengthen connections between credit and non‑for‑credit programs.
Qualifications This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and eight years of related experience. Candidates should have a successful record as a key contributor to an executive leadership team, possess strong teambuilding skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and proactive problem‑solving skills, and interact effectively with a range of constituencies. A doctorate, or an equivalent terminal degree, a minimum of eight years’ experience in continuing education and workforce development and progressively responsible managerial experience are required.
Compensation and Benefits Salary commensurate with education and experience. Salary range $145,000–$183,960.
