Job Summary The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for Department Head for Social Foundations and Leadership Education, College of Education on the Dahlonega campus. The department head is responsible for the quality of instruction, research, and programs, provides leadership for faculty curriculum development, ensures quality standards, and oversees departmental operations. The role includes faculty promotion, tenure, personnel management, recruitment, and building the department’s image.
Responsibilities
Manage/build the course schedule and faculty assignments each semester.
Attend accreditation and assessment meetings; collaborate with the Associate Dean of Assessment and Accreditation to analyze program performance data.
Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Student Support Services to monitor student program performance and handle student issues.
Manage faculty issues, keep faculty informed of the Faculty Annual Review process, conduct evaluations.
Work with faculty on curricular review and development, facilitate new course and program approvals, and submit documents to the College’s Curriculum Committee.
Consistently review and update the catalog for the department’s programs and courses.
Publish part‑time and full‑time positions as needed, chair hiring committees, and train faculty to serve on search committees.
Guide the Pre‑Tenure, Promotion and Tenure, and Post‑Tenure processes, including writing letters for portfolios.
Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Community Engagement to provide professional development and workshop opportunities for faculty.
Develop departmental guidelines, procedures, and policies in addition to those listed in the Faculty Handbook.
Co‑operate with the Associate Dean on recruitment of students and overall recruitment plan.
Maintain web pages for the department and programs.
Manage communication to students, faculty, and staff; hold regular departmental meetings.
Participate in leadership meetings with the Dean and represent the department at other on‑campus meetings.
Required Qualifications
Doctorate in Education, research, or related field required.
Experience with CRM platforms/software for scheduling and communications.
Experience with K12 education and partnerships.
Experience teaching courses at the college level in online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face modalities.
Record of scholarly activity.
Experience with accreditation.
Prior leadership experience, including supervision.
