Job Overview The Behavioral Specialist Assistant Educator provides hands‑on support for students with behavioral and emotional needs, implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavior supports. The role involves direct student interaction, data collection, and collaboration with the educational team to promote a positive learning environment, while supporting students academically to keep up with their work.

Essential Functions

Promote culturally and linguistically responsive practices.

Assist teachers and staff in maintaining a safe, diverse, and productive learning environment; reinforce classroom learning and improve personal skills.

Assist students in learning processes; reinforce positive behavior, provide individual instruction, encourage socialization and positive communication.

Monitor and supervise student activities; promote respect, support diversity, explain social norms and disciplinary consequences, de‑escalate conflicts, and enforce district policies.

Record data for academic and behavioral assessments; maintain files, keep progress records, assure completion of required written reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or higher in Education or a closely related area; OR completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits from an accredited institution; OR a passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high‑school diploma or a GED.

Two (2) years of professional experience working with children.

License and Certification Requirements First Aid, CPR, AED, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training may be required.

Hiring Process Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
