Base pay range $120,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr
Constellation Search Group is looking for a Senior Software Engineer for a full‑time direct hire position. The Senior Software Engineer will join the Research & Development team within the Blood Management Business Unit, in a hybrid role based in Baltimore, MD. This position involves developing critical applications for the blood and healthcare industries, focusing on back‑end PHP development with MySQL, while also assisting with front‑end work in React as needed. The role requires active participation throughout the sprint cycle and SDLC, contributing to technical design, coding, code reviews, and release coordination.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain PHP applications, supporting existing legacy frameworks.
Design schemas, write queries, and optimize performance in MySQL.
Support user interface development in React, collaborating with front‑end developers to deliver comprehensive features.
Write and sustain unit tests with PHPUnit to ensure code quality and reliability.
Develop clean, maintainable, and well‑documented code, enforcing coding standards within the team.
Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior and mid‑level developers.
Work closely with product managers, QA, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Participate actively in sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
Ensure applications meet healthcare compliance and security requirements.
Identify opportunities to enhance system performance, maintainability, and team efficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of professional experience in PHP application development.
Strong experience with MySQL, including schema design and query optimization.
Familiarity with PHPUnit or similar testing frameworks.
Some experience with React and the ability to contribute to front‑end development.
Proficiency with Git and experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and strong attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, proven success in cross‑team working environments.
Experience maintaining and modernizing legacy PHP codebases.
Experience with cloud‑hosted environments (AWS, Azure, or similar).
Familiarity with healthcare, blood banking, or other highly regulated industries.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, or Kubernetes.
Experience mentoring engineers or contributing to team‑level technical leadership.
