The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children’s Services (OCS) is recruiting for a Nurse Consultant 1 located in Anchorage or Wasilla, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing The Nurse Consultant 1 provides medical and mental health consultation to the Office of Children’s Services staff, as well as administrative guidance, technical assistance and recommendations to OCS staff regarding psychotropic medications. They assist in identifying and monitoring appropriate residential placements for youth in custody while meeting the least restrictive placement options for them.

Working Environment You Can Expect This position may be located in Midtown Anchorage or in Wasilla, AK. Both locations have nearby restaurants and shops. It works 37.5 hours per week and closely with frontline Protective Services Specialists and medical providers who care for children in custody. We Are Seeking a Candidate With The Following Competencies

Special Note

All positions require a successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.

This position requires a valid Alaska driver's license.

While the Division does have vehicles assigned to it, they may not always be available for staff use. Mileage reimbursement is available when a personal vehicle is used for work‑related matters. Current automotive insurance must be in place prior to use of a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the State.

The successful candidate may be required to attend multiple training courses normally located in Anchorage.

Qualifications Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska. Any combination of education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in the following areas:

Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.

Evidence‑Based Practice: Integrates best research practices with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care and participates in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.

Standards: Knowledge of standards that either are compliant with or derived from established standards or guidelines.

Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.

Decision Making: Makes sound, well‑informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
