Grafton Sciences
Senior Controls Engineer
at
Grafton Sciences
About Grafton Sciences We’re building AI systems with general physical ability — the capacity to experiment, engineer, or manufacture anything. We believe achieving this is a key step towards building superintelligence. With deep technical roots and real-world progress at scale (e.g., a $42M NIH project), we’re pushing the frontier of physical AI. Joining us means inventing from first principles, owning real systems end-to-end, and helping build a capability the world has never had before.
About The Role We’re seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to design the real-time control systems that drive advanced robotics, automation, and precision hardware. You’ll develop control loops, state machines, motion profiles, and safety envelopes that enable high-performance, deterministic behavior across complex electromechanical systems. This role is deeply cross-functional, working closely with robotics, firmware, mechanical, and automation teams to integrate controllers into reliable, production-grade systems.
Responsibilities
Develop motion control, force/torque control, and real-time control loops (PID/MPC/adaptive) for robotic and automated systems.
Design system-level state machines, sequencing logic, and safety envelopes for high-speed, fault-tolerant operation.
Integrate controllers with sensors, actuators, embedded firmware, and digital twins for testing and validation.
Collaborate with robotics, automation, electrical, and mechanical engineers to bring complex electromechanical systems from prototype to reliable deployment.
Qualifications
Deep experience designing and tuning real-time control systems for robotics, automation, motion platforms, or precision electromechanical equipment.
Strong foundation in control theory and practical implementation, including sensing, actuation, estimation, and system identification.
Hands‑on experience integrating controls with embedded firmware, PLCs, or real‑time industrial hardware.
Comfortable debugging complex system interactions and owning control‑performance outcomes in fast‑paced engineering environments.
Above all, we look for candidates who can demonstrate world‑class excellence.
Compensation We offer competitive salary, meaningful equity, and benefits.
Seniority level Mid-Senior level
Employment type Full-time
Job function Engineering and Information Technology
