Director of Distribution - Winchester, KY
Purpose
Oversee the successful operation of assigned Save A Lot Distribution Centers by monitoring compliance with Save A Lot policies and procedures, providing continuous management training and development, developing strategic direction, and using financial acumen to budget operational expenses and financial goals that lead to the overall success of Save A Lot. The role also acts as an intermediary to retail customers and the corporate office to ensure world‑class customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the financial and operational success of multiple distribution centers
Performs regular visits to assigned distribution centers to evaluate operational, financial, and employee relation effectiveness
Conducts bi‑weekly conference calls with assigned distribution centers to review current operations
Plans and executes network‑wide process improvement initiatives in coordination with assigned distribution management teams
Coordinates and implements strategic initiatives created by peer distribution directors and cross- functional departments
Directs the management activities of assigned distribution center with 1–7 direct reports, ensures programs are executed to minimize expenses, provides workplace safety, maintains sanitation, strives for an intensely productive environment, and guarantees high‑quality customer service
Leverages data and technology to diagnose operational issues and assists managers in developing solutions, action plans, and communications to resolve issues
Leads a positive cultural environment to become employer of choice in the market
Utilizes communication, alignment, and empowerment to serve customers to the highest standards in distribution and logistics
Adheres to budget administration in an environment of continuous improvement
Reviews financial statements, labor productivity figures, building operations, loss prevention processes, quality assurance processes, and customer service metrics to ensure cost‑effective operations
Analyzes and identifies opportunities for process improvement resulting in cost or time saved
Accountable for profit and loss results on all warehouse expenses
Coordinates development of capital expense budgets through distribution center management; coordinates use of capital and reports on spend vs. budget
Responsible for leading all aspects of the operation in alignment with Save A Lot’s leadership strategy
Inbound operations: receipt of incoming goods by receivers and Qais and maintenance and storage of items by inventory control team
Outbound operations: movement of product within the Save A Lot distribution center and supply chain network using order selectors, forklift operators, and loaders
Logistics: oversight of the third‑party transportation company responsible for shipment of goods from the point of origin (distribution center) to the end customer (store or another Save A Lot facility)
Responsible for development plans of the distribution center management team(s) and monitors establishment of goals for their performance
Evaluates and provides feedback to managers on progress toward completion of goals
Conducts semi‑annual performance reviews with direct reports
Ensures pro‑employee relation status is maintained through appropriate management practices, communication, disciplinary actions, and manager/employee relations
Counsels and directs distribution center management on handling labor relations, staffing, disciplinary actions, and a positive work environment; partners with respective manager(s) to conduct root‑cause analysis of employee turnover
Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory agencies regarding OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA, USDA FSIS
Represents company in any inquiries and interactions from regulatory agencies
Responsible for leading the food safety programs and quality assurance systems for assigned distribution center(s) that support the Food Safety Modernization Act
About You
Bachelor’s degree in business or 10 years related experience in a distribution or logistics environment
Management experience in warehouse operations or experience in high‑volume distribution centers is required
Strong analytical, oral, and communication skills with proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and with cross‑functional partners
Proficient in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
Extensive financial acumen and understanding of key components to drive and sustain positive financial results
Strong computer skills; ability to navigate Warehouse Management System and Transportation Management System platforms, and proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel 1–2 weeks every fiscal quarter
Flexible to travel as needed for emergency situations
Most work performed in a temperature‑controlled environment
Incumbent may sit for long periods at a desk or computer terminal
Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday
Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required during job duties
