Leidos is seeking an experienced System Administrator to support the Alaska Automation Capability (AAC) and Future Flight Services Program (FFSP) contracts with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role serves as a core member of our system ownership team and is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of both our software development and test laboratory environments, as well as our operational production systems.
The System Administrator will be expected to apply deep technical expertise across Linux, Windows, networking, and system security domains. The position requires a proactive approach to system sustainment, continuous improvement, and lifecycle management. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of innovative technology solutions supporting current program needs and evolving FAA mission requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Configuration and administration of Linux and Windows systems in lab and operational environments
Network configuration and management
Manage system access and group policies
Installation of custom and COTS software in lab and operational environments
Troubleshooting lab and operational environment issues and coordinating with relevant team to ensure timely resolution of issues with minimal impact to the engineering and operations team
Lead the planning, documentation, and implementation of lab and operational environment changes
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 8-12 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 6-10 years of experience.
Significant experience in either Linux or Windows system administration, with knowledge of and experience in the other:
Linux
Strong proficiency in Linux environments, including:
SSH, command-line operations, filesystem management
File and directory permissions, process and service management
Package management
Shell scripting (bash)
Demonstrated capability in diagnosing system issues and performing root-cause analysis.
Windows
Hands‑on experience with Windows Server OS, core services, and infrastructure components.
Expertise in Active Directory administration, including:
User and group management
Organizational Unit (OU) design
Group Policy creation, linking, inheritance, and security‑related configuration
Replication and domain controller management
Strong working knowledge of PowerShell for automation and system administration.
Configuration and troubleshooting of Linux and Windows network settings.
Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking principles.
Experience with DNS, DHCP, routing concepts, and firewall rules.
Ability to resolve connectivity, latency, and name resolution issues across heterogeneous environments.
Practical knowledge of system access control, authentication, and authorization.
Experience implementing encryption technologies.
Familiarity with multifactor authentication solutions.
Knowledge of web server technologies (Apache, Nginx).
System hardening techniques aligned with best practices and compliance requirements.
Ability to plan and prioritize personal tasking and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Independent thinker, capable of performing high quality work, both independently and with a team in a fast‑moving environment
Ability to obtain SF-85
US citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
Programming or scripting experience in languages such as Java, Perl, HTML/CSS.
Experience with Ansible and infrastructure‑as‑code concepts; familiarity with YAML.
Exposure to Agile methodologies and iterative software delivery practices.
Hands‑on experience with deploying, configuring, and managing custom and COTS software packages.
Familiarity with database administration or operations (MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or MongoDB).

Pay Range Pay Range: $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
