Job Description On the Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine & Palliative Medicine, the Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive care to patients in ambulatory or inpatient settings, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and coordinate treatment and education.

The PA will work under the supervision of Dr. Alpesh Amin, MD, following all institutional policies and procedures.

This Position May Perform

Functions within their scope of practice, including management of chronic stable conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical/surgical procedures per approved practice agreement.

Provides patient care across age groups where education and licensing permit, at all Health licensed settings and affiliates.

Assumes responsibility for standards of care for their patient population, demonstrating self‑direction and accountability.

Is credentialed, privileged, and accountable to supervising or collaborating physicians and the Administrative Manager.

Population served: Adult population.

Required

Possess clear understanding of core internal medicine principles.

Knowledge of the elements of a medical history and skill in the history‑taking process.

Expertise and appropriate physical exam skills.

Demonstrated experience in review and use of standard protocols for Hospital Medicine.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.

Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.

Must demonstrate customer‑service skills appropriate to the job.

Skill to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes.

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.

Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.

Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to PHI or other sensitive information.

Applicant must have completed a PA training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA).

Licensure through the California Physician Assistant Board (Medical Board of California).

Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) or obtain one prior to employment start date and meet current Medicare billing requirements.

Applicant must hold a current DEA Registration (schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, 5).

Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Evidence of completion of a Controlled Substances Education Course that meets California Code of Regulations §§ 1399.610, 1399.612.

National board certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) at time of initial appointment.

Experience in working with patients undergoing single and combined modality treatment plans.

Preferred

Multilingual skills.

Special Conditions

Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.

Applicant must provide documentation of care provided (# and type of cases/procedures) during the past 24 months, representative of requested privileges.
