Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Department: Microbiology
Pay range: $108,680 – $184,690 / year. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
Maintains adequate staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, and competency assessment of personnel.
Performs the scheduling, planning, staffing, and monitoring of workflow to meet established goals.
Provides staff development through regular communication/feedback, effective performance management, and corrective counseling.
Provides technical oversight of area(s) of responsibility and serves as a technical resource for problem‑solving and process improvement to ensure accurate test performance.
Monitors and ensures implementation of goals to meet established quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement plans.
Procures appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and meet established budgetary and quality goals.
Performs direct specimen testing/troubleshooting as needed to maintain adequate workflow.
Uses effective two‑way communication in leading/participating in general laboratory/section meetings. Ensures performance boards are updated and huddles are taken on a regular basis.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective action.
Interacts with internal and external customers to ensure proper sample handling and reporting.
Participates in the updating of departmental standard operating procedures and database to accurately reflect current practices.
Participates in supervisory skills training.
Supports continuous improvement activities.
Supports, implements, and ensures compliance with all department and company policies and procedures.
Complies with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Required to use personal protective equipment.

Qualifications Required Work Experience:
Minimum 6 years as a medical technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory environment.

Physical And Mental Requirements
May require lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs, with assistance for weights >50 lbs. Frequent and occasional lifting described.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks. Frequent simple grasping, reaching and fine manipulation.
Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
Good eye‑hand coordination.
Knowledge N/A
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Proven leadership, interpersonal, communication, and technical skills in the specialty area being supervised.
Education Bachelor’s degree in science required.
License/Certification Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist or limited) license required.
