Qualified candidates will have at least 10 years of hands‑on substation design experience, preferably in a utility environment (but would consider a consultant environment as well).
Responsibilities
Provides comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities and ensures the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
Leads functional teams and provides technical oversight in performing all phases of projects.
Assists with internal training for engineers and technicians.
Works closely with managers and principal engineers on higher-level projects, and recommends and implements changes that benefit the company.
Develops economical, technically feasible, and reliable substation physical and control designs with no supervision and guidance.
Provides technical management of multiple substation projects and prioritization of work, working collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders. (25%)
Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (25%)
Provides coordination and communication with other departments in completing procurement tasks on projects with no supervision or guidance. (15%)
Assists and guides other departments in the solution of non‑standard substation design problems. (15%)
Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures, such that cash flow requirements are identified. (10%)
Provides input for the development of detailed project schedules and updates the project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (10%)
Ensures all compliance aspects of the position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to the position and company.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in electrical engineering and 8 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE.
If no PE license, must have 10+ years as a practicing engineer.
Substation/control engineering principles and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
Areas of cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting, with technical experience in cost analysis.
