Enterprise Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Inside Higher Ed . This hybrid‑eligible position is located with the University IT (UIT) in Redwood City, California.
Core Responsibilities
Build and maintain scalable, highly available, resilient cloud and on‑prem systems. Implement new cloud functionality and migrate existing processes to the cloud.
Use CI/CD and infrastructure automation to build and deploy systems.
Build and manage IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services in native or hybrid cloud environments, ensuring performance, cost, and security optimization.
Develop and maintain automation scripts with Python and infrastructure‑as‑code templates (Terraform) for Oracle OCI and AWS resources.
Engineer processes across servers, applications, and databases; monitor and ensure reliability, including handling traffic spikes.
Design infrastructure resources, performance optimization, backup/recovery strategies, and overall health monitoring.
Maintain efficient connectivity solutions across campus infrastructure.
Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to optimize cloud‑based solutions.
Ensure monitoring coverage for applications; drive root‑cause analysis and timely resolution of issues.
Implement best practices for IaaS, PaaS lifecycle.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI and AWS CLI tooling.
Extensive experience deploying AWS servers using Terraform and orchestrating environments from OS through application layers with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Git, Puppet, etc.
Experience with server sizing, cost reduction, and network security.
Strong network, firewall, security hardening, storage, and Unix OS management skills.
DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD, release automation.
Ability to script in Unix Shell and Python.
Excellent communication, presentation, and collaborative problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team, and to learn new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Single Sign‑On (SAML), OpenID.
Experience with AWS SQS, API Gateway, OAuth 2.0, and RESTful APIs.
Experience with Oracle OCI.
AWS/OCI certifications preferred.
Compensation The expected pay range for this position is $150,922 – $155,000 per annum. Base pay is one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package offered by Inside Higher Ed. Additional benefits information will be discussed during the hiring process.
