FDNY seeks a full‑time Fire Medical Officer (FMO) in the Bureau of Health Services (BHS). Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer, the FMO will work in the Duty Determination Clinic Unit and the Fitness for Duty Unit. Primary responsibilities include assessing medical qualifications for firefighters, fire officers, EMTs, paramedics, and EMS officers; guiding testing for duty determination; providing ongoing follow‑up evaluations; and participating on departmental or joint medical evaluation boards. The FMO may also engage in research projects and health initiatives, especially those addressing orthopedic injury risks. Additionally, the FMO will triage members at emergency scenes, conduct hospital evaluations, and coordinate with command officers during critical incidents.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York and valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the Department.
Preferred Skills
Valid medical license in New York State.
Valid Board Certification or an approved application for admission to the certifying examination by the appropriate American Board Specialty.
Experience in occupational healthcare and implementation of clinical programs or projects.
