Base pay range $225,000.00/yr - $335,000.00/yr
Summary The HBPC Medical Director, appointed by the Chief of Staff, must be a physician responsible for the overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team. In facilities with academic affiliations, the HBPC Medical Director is encouraged to have a faculty appointment and be involved in academic activities.
Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship.
Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Residents currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency training program and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Board certified – preferably in Geriatrics; preferred experience in geriatrics and home care.
Physical requirements as outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Duties
Ensure excellent patient‑centered care for current HBPC patients, including direct patient care as a primary care provider for a panel of patients; provide consultative care; ensure adequate clinical coverage for HBPC providers including physicians and nurse practitioners; supervise clinical care; provide input on patient treatment plans; attend team meetings and relay important issues; answer clinical questions; complete required provider proficiencies; provide clinical and regulatory oversight and feedback to direct reports; review leave requests.
Serve as coverage when needed for provider shortages; review and approve timecards in VATAS.
Improve care for HBPC patients by collaborating with Program Director and staff on quality monitoring, quality improvement, and process improvement efforts; collaborate with Program Coordinator in hiring; collaborate with VA Leadership on program development and related issues; keep the team apprised of medical advances and practice standards; provide updates to ACOS and AO on program improvement efforts; attend GEC CPM monthly meetings.
Facilitate a supportive interdisciplinary clinical learning environment for team members and trainees; plan and direct educational experiences for medical trainees; act as liaison between HBPC and university medicine and geriatric training programs; offer regular in‑service education; create a positive and supportive work environment; serve as a role model of professional, respectful and collaborative behavior.
Serve as a liaison between HBPC team and VA and university aging researchers; advocate for HBPC inclusion and representation in research; educate researchers and interdisciplinary team on research opportunities; pursue and manage grant funding opportunities that further HBPC goals.
Other duties as assigned.
VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package including competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, paid time off (50‑55 days per year), retirement benefits, federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care insurance; 1 full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory; CME reimbursement; malpractice coverage; contract buy‑out program; work schedule 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday–Friday.
