NYU Langone Health invites applicants for the Cardiac Vascular Sonographer (FGP) position located in Brooklyn/Jamacia. The role involves performing cardiac and vascular ultrasound studies with a commitment to patient care and departmental standards.
Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Cardiac Sonographer. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing all cardiac ultrasound studies including echocardiograms, treadmill stress echocardiograms, pharmacological stress echocardiograms, echocardiograms with ultrasound enhancing agents, and agitated saline studies. They also perform all vascular ultrasound studies including carotid duplex, upper and lower extremity venous and arterial duplex studies, abdominal aortic studies, renal artery duplex studies, iliocaval duplex studies, mesenteric duplex studies, plethysmography, and ankle‑brachial index studies.
Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge of NYU policies and protocols and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Performs all cardiac and vascular ultrasound studies following NYU protocols and IAC/ACR standards.
Provides patient comfort, identifies patients, verifies identity, and explains procedures.
Creates preliminary reports, documents scans, and maintains patient data with good judgment.
Uses highly technical equipment for ultrasound studies.
Alerts medical staff of abnormalities that require immediate attention.
Compares present studies to previous studies to monitor changes.
Assists with maintaining accreditation compliance and documentation.
May require lifting, pushing, or moving patients and equipment over 150 pounds.
Completes assignments within realistic timeframes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a related field and completion of an accredited program in cardiac and vascular ultrasound or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or with Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS). One credential in each area is required; a candidate may apply with one credential provided the second is obtained within one year of hire.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Must maintain active registry status.
Required Licenses and Certifications Must have both cardiac and vascular credentials from the following list:
Reg Cardiac Sonographer‑ Cert (RCS)
Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer‑Ct (RDCS)
Reg Vascular Technologist‑Cert (RVT)
Reg Vascular Sonographer (RVS)
Preferred Qualifications
1–2 years of experience scanning both cardiac and vascular ultrasound.
Effective communication with all levels of the organization.
