Software Engineer Manager, Photos Agent/LLM Infrastructure Join Google as a Software Engineer Manager, leading a high‑performing backend team focused on Photos Agent/LLM infrastructure and large‑scale systems.

Location: Playa Vista, CA (preferred; available in Mountain View, CA and Los Angeles, CA).

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.

8 years of experience in software development.

3 years of experience with developing large‑scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.

2 years of experience in a people‑management or team‑leadership role.

2 years of experience with state‑of‑the‑art GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, Multi‑Modal, Large Vision Models) or with GenAI‑related concepts (language modeling, computer vision).

Preferred qualifications

Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

Demonstrated people and organizational management skills.

Strong cross‑functional project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

They optimize their own code and ensure teammates can optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. With technical and leadership expertise, you oversee engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget, and the deployment of large‑scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Google Photos is a photo‑sharing and storage service developed by Google. Photos is one of the most sought‑after products at Google, and it is looking for both client‑side (web and mobile) and server‑side (search, storage, serving) as well as machine‑intelligence (learning, computer vision) Software Engineers.

Compensation US base salary range: $197,000 – $291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. The base salary is determined by role, level, and location, while additional compensation is influenced by experience, skills, and education.

Responsibilities

Manage, support, and grow a high‑performing team of backend engineers, leading with management excellence and shaping and influencing the team culture.

Collaborate closely with product managers, other mission leads, and partner with mission TLs to set the long‑term technical strategy and engineering excellence goals for the team.

Perform day‑to‑day responsibilities that include career management, ensuring smooth team processes (including releases and interruptions), and enabling efficient execution of the roadmap across teams and functions.

Translate ideas into functional demos, enabling swift iteration and collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
