Software Development Manager, AWS Vetting

role at

Amazon Web Services (AWS) .

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to build massively scalable systems that are used by the world's largest cloud infrastructures? Would you enjoy broad yet equally deep scope that impacts all AWS systems globally?

AWS Vetting continues to pioneer and our team is architecting, building, and operating scalable services that are at the core of AWS infrastructure. We build platforms and tools that ensure the health of AWS hardware by verifying and authenticating every new and rebuilt system across all AWS data centers and manufacturing sites. Our platform enables service owners such as EC2, EBS, S3, and others to deliver healthy servers for their services to production. The team leads a large‑scale service that sets the bar for Amazon and the industry in platform‑level services, effectively enabling the hardware at scale by designing and developing the software that manages the verification and testing of every server in AWS.

Why it’s high‑impact? We set the bar high to ensure that AWS customers get the capacity they need to run their applications on a healthy hardware server within an SLA.

What’s the challenge? Our platform is mission critical and requires deep system and software expertise. You need the ability to work within a fast‑moving, startup‑like environment in a large company, identifying solutions, trying ideas, and iterating to produce products that customers love.

Key Job Responsibilities

Define and execute the team's vision for building systems that safely deploy content across AWS Data Centers and Manufacturing sites, ensuring high‑quality standards and alignment with organizational goals.

Lead and develop a high‑performing engineering team through effective hiring, mentoring, and career development opportunities, creating an environment where engineers collaborate and grow professionally.

Partner with internal teams and manufacturing partners to establish strategic server and rack pool management systems for regression testing, optimizing resource utilization across the organization.

Create and implement mechanisms to scale operations, delegating responsibilities while maintaining ownership of delivered software and staying connected to critical technical details.

Drive architectural decisions and technical direction for systems that enable platform and content owners to author, test, and deploy their content safely across applicable environments.

Advise and consult with other SDMs and Senior Engineers on design and architecture.

Provide technical direction to the team and influence technical direction of stakeholder teams.

Establish and execute short‑ and long‑term architectural roadmaps.

Hire and mentor software/system engineers and actively participate in developing their careers.

Partner with Product Managers and TPMs to accelerate delivery of solutions to our customers.

Be responsible for ensuring the sanity of architecture, operational excellence and quality, delivering results on time.

A Day in the Life Your day begins with a stand‑up meeting where you align priorities with your team and address any blocking issues. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with both customers and your engineering team to advance multiple high‑impact initiatives. You’ll review architecture proposals, provide technical guidance on implementation approaches, and meet with manufacturing partners to understand their needs and constraints. You’ll balance strategic planning with hands‑on problem solving, keeping an eye on both the immediate deliverables and the long‑term vision for your systems.

About The Team We are part of the AWS Vetting organization within the EC2 organization. Our team builds critical services and systems that enable platform and content owners like HWEngS and Annapurna to author, test, and deploy their content safely across all applicable environments. We own the full suite of services supporting regression testing, server pool management, check‑in/out processes for regression testing, and content deployment across data centers and manufacturing sites. Our work ensures that AWS hardware meets the highest quality standards before deployment, directly impacting the reliability and performance of AWS infrastructure that powers countless customer workloads globally.
