In alignment with the company’s mission, vision, and core values, the Director of Business Development serves as a key strategic leader responsible for driving growth initiatives across existing and emerging markets. Reporting directly to the VP of Business Development, this role provides critical oversight of strategic planning, key account development, and cross-functional execution to expand the organization’s market presence.
The Director will lead business development efforts across multiple product lines and market segments, develop long-term growth strategies, and identify high- value opportunities in partnership with the VP. This individual will oversee and mentor senior managers and team members, ensuring that forecasts, market intelligence, and customer engagement plans are aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, communicate, and execute business development strategies to drive multi-year growth in core aerospace and adjacent markets.
Build and maintain high-level relationships with major OEM, CAD/PAD, and emerging technology customers. Lead negotiations for significant new contracts, pricing agreements, and long-term partnerships.
Identify new product and market opportunities through competitive analysis, market research, and customer engagement. Provide strategic recommendations to the VP and executive leadership team.
Provide direct leadership to all team members. Mentor staff in customer strategy, forecasting, and proposal development.
Oversee preparation of accurate multi-year orders and sales forecasts to support corporate planning and financial objectives. Guide the Book & Ship and Division Review processes.
Direct the development of complex proposals and pricing strategies in collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Contracts.
Work closely with the marketing team to ensure alignment between business development activities and brand awareness campaigns.
Partner with the VP and other senior leaders on strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and key corporate initiatives.
Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and conferences to enhance visibility and establish thought leadership.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manages subordinate managers and non-supervisory sales and marketing personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree (Business, Engineering, or related field) required; MBA or advanced degree preferred. Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in aerospace OEM and/or aftermarket business development or related fields, including at least 3–5 years in a senior management role. Demonstrated success in strategic planning, key account management, and high-value contract negotiations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES Strong understanding of aerospace market dynamics, government contracting (FAR/DFARS), and OEM procurement processes. Exceptional leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities. Advanced analytical and forecasting skills, with proficiency in CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of influencing at the executive level.
