At SES Commercial Aviation, supporting the needs of the commercial aviation community has been our mission. As the world’s largest, most resilient space systems operator, our ability to create proven broadband solutions drives us to innovate for the inflight internet demands of today and tomorrow. As a Product Owner, you will play a leading role in advancing SES’s strategy for the commercial aviation marketplace and deliver industry‑leading connectivity experiences that delight the customer and rival those in their home, office, and daily lives.

As a Product Owner, you will help define and enable SES Inflight technology solutions that transform airline operations and enhance our position in the marketplace. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to enhance SES Inflight offerings, delivering value for airlines and strengthening our partnerships with aerospace OEMs and third parties.

As a Product Owner, you will lead highly collaborative, cross‑functional Agile teams that deliver against overall SES Inflight business goals and product vision. Utilizing Agile / SAFe methodology, the Product Owner will collaborate closely with Product Managers, other Product Owners, Account Management, Development, UX Designers, Systems Engineering/Architecture, Quality Assurance, Dev‑Ops, and other key stakeholders and represent the team in various SAFe rituals.

Responsibilities

With input from System Architect/Engineering/Software Development and other stakeholders, the Product Owner has the primary responsibility for building, editing, and maintaining the Team Backlog in order to iteratively deliver software and maximize the value of the products created by the team.

Product Owners also contribute to the Program Backlog by partnering with Product Managers for development of an epic and contributing to the organization’s vision and roadmap.

During the Program Increment planning, the Product Owner is involved with story definition, providing clarifications necessary to assist the team with their story estimates and sequencing, guiding the team on defining their PI objectives, driving commitment on external dependencies, and representing the team plan, commitments, and risks at readouts and management review.

During execution, the Product Owner will attend regular Agile team meetings including daily standups, backlog grooming, sprint planning and retrospectives. At grooming sessions, the Product Owner will vertically slice features into user stories so that the team can deliver value incrementally. The Product Owner is responsible for effective communication, ensuring the team understands the business needs, and stakeholders are informed about the product’s progress and direction.

The Product Owner approves story and feature completion. This includes validating that the stories meet the feature acceptance criteria, ensuring the appropriate level of automated testing has been created, and that the feature achieves the Definition of Done (DoD).

Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement

The Product Owner acts as a servant leader, promoting continuous improvement with the Agile team and the organization.

The Product Owner motivates the team to deliver high‑quality software by enabling continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
