Northrop Grumman is seeking experienced Low Observable / Survivability staff to work on High Performance Computing (HPC) Systems Engineering projects. This opportunity is contingent on program funding; start dates are determined after funding confirmation. The role focuses on HPC for Survivability computational electromagnetics, with opportunities to apply artificial intelligence / machine learning to support code deployment, maintenance, and optimization, and to inform architecture and deployment of new compute technologies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy architectures for future HPC systems based on engineering computing requirements, collaborating with engineering teams to achieve optimal performance.
- Manage HPC systems throughout their life cycle: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
- Perform HPC technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk evaluation, and supportability and effectiveness analyses.
- Monitor and report HPC system health/metrics; gather data, analyze, reproduce, resolve or escalate issues, and drive closure.
- Identify and resolve system performance bottlenecks; diagnose hardware and software configuration issues; perform basic hardware fixes.
- Provide oversight of System Administration tasks.
- Assist software developers in the installation, optimization, and debugging of CEM codes and other Survivability design and analysis tools.
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity to design and implement cybersecurity solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with HPC system design, supercomputer implementation, HPC networked architecture, and parallel processing optimization.
- Linux system administration experience.
- Programming experience with at least one shell scripting language (e.g., Bash, Csh).
- Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance to start, with ability to obtain and maintain clearance for Special Access Programs (SAPs).
Educational / Experience Requirements
- Principal HPC Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional/military engineering experience, OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience.
- Senior Principal HPC Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related experience, OR a Master’s degree and 6 years of related experience, OR a Ph.D. and 5 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with programming languages such as C++, C#, Java, Python.
- Strong knowledge of HPC technologies, storage, parallel processing, and scientific computing frameworks.
- Experience building and maintaining high-scale distributed systems and running scalable distributed application software.
- Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Systems Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Hands-on experience with HPC hardware diagnostics and repair.
- Experience with software compilation processes (compilers, GNU Make, CMake, etc.).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements and methodologies.
- Experience with architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, scaling) of HPC systems.
- Working knowledge of JSIG and STIG.
Salary
Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00
Salary Range 2: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; compensation varies based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and other incentives. Long-Term Incentives may be available for certain leadership roles.
